Choosing the Right Size Door Mat for Your Home

Getting the sizing right is one of the most important decisions you’ll make, and it’s one that many homeowners get wrong. Too small, and a significant portion of foot traffic bypasses the mat entirely. Too large, and it may obstruct the door or look out of place.

As a general guide for domestic use:

• Standard front door:  a 60cm x 90cm mat covers most traffic comfortably
• Wide hallways or double doors: consider 90cm x 120cm or a made-to-measure option. A runner mat is a great choice for removing more dirt and moisture as people walk along your hallway.
• Porch or boot room:  a made to measure mat can protect a larger area and works well alongside an outdoor mat

Caring for Your Home Door Mat

A little regular maintenance goes a long way. For most domestic door mats, we’d recommend:

• Shaking the mat outside every few days to remove loose dirt and grit
• Vacuuming weekly, ideally with a brush head setting
• For washable mats, a machine wash every four to six weeks depending on how much foot traffic your home gets
