This black coir mat has no pattern and is multi-directional, so the sizes listed can be either the width or the length of the mat. Important Considerations for Black Coir Mats
It’s important to note a few characteristics of natural black coir matting that differ from synthetic mats.
Initial Shedding: When you first receive your black coir mat, you will notice some loose fibres shed, particularly during the initial use. This is completely normal and will subside quickly. Regular brushing with a stiff broom or light vacuuming with the upholstery attachment will help remove loose fibres from your black coir matting.
Moisture Management: While coir excels at removing and absorbing moisture, it’s best to avoid letting the black coir mat become saturated in patches unless it is being used outdoors, where all of the matting will be saturated. This can cause some staining of the coir fibres, although black is the best colour for masking such stains. To prevent this, avoid leaving wet boots or dripping umbrellas on your black coir matting for extended periods. If possible, position your black coir mat in a sheltered location to minimise exposure to heavy rain. For small spills on black coir, a mild soap solution can be used for cleaning, but remember, prevention is key!

Regular cleaning:
- Vacuum cleaner with roller brush
- Sweep with stiff brush
Deep cleaning:
- Spot-clean your coir mat with a mild soap and water solution. Be sure not to soak the mat though; lightly dampen it instead.
What should you avoid doing when cleaning coir matting?
When maintaining your coir mats, there are certain things you should avoid to prevent damage.
- Do not use harsh chemicals or detergents when cleaning coir mats. These substances can harm the natural fibres of the coir, reducing its durability and lifespan.
- Avoid soaking or saturating any part of the mats with liquid as this can also damage the fibres and warp the mat as well as making them susceptible to mould and mildew growth.

I chose black to be different but it was the wrong choice for my dark porch but thatโs my fault not the company. It is in a covered outside porch and slips from its position but I guess it could be glued or I could try an anti slip mat underneath.
The mat itself is a good density and when we come to change it I will go back to the same company for a different colour.
